Don’t skimp on the meta tags and desription. Although these are no where near as important as they used to be (in SEO dinosaur days) they still help, and when used properly can still be great content and keyword reinforcement. The meta description tag should be in proper grammar with complete sentences. Have a GREAT title tag. And we mean “Great!” Make sure it uses the keywords that represent your site. Keywords that your audience will be using to find your services. Try not to go overboard--keep it under 70 characters as a good rule of thumb. Be bold. Use the <b> </b> tags around some of your keywords on each page. Do NOT use them everywhere the keyword appears. Once or twice is plenty.Deep linking. Link to as many pages as possible (the pages that are NOT the home page, the pages that are within the site--Deep Links.) This tells the search engines you have worthwhile content to be linking to. If all your links are coming to the home page, then it tells the search engines that you have a shallow site of little value. Fresh content. Fresh keywords. Fresh title tags. Did we mention fresh content!Newsletters. Make your newsletter rich in keywords and with proper anchor text (without over-doing it). Add alt-tags to any images in case your subscribers have images disabled. This is easily tracked in Google Analytics.Don't overdo the anchor text. You don't want all your inbound links looking the same, because that looks like automation - something Google frowns upon. You can use your URL: www.pinkgravy.com sometimes and SEO Consulting by Pink Gravy, or even PinkGravy.com all as your anchor text. Make it unique, have it vary and get creative!Site map. In Google's Webmaster Guidelines, they suggest that you use a site map, so set one up immediately! There are sitemap creators you can use to help you with this. Social bookmarking. Make it easy for your visitors to social bookmark your website, creating important links that the search engines value. There are plenty of free social bookmarking widgets available like Digg, StumbledUpon and Reddit. Use these to your advantage---even “Digg” your own page! We use a Share link which gives visitors and option of which social bookmarking they prefer to use. Don’t be afraid to use Social Media. Use it for content, use it for linking, use it for branding...Just Use It. A good article to read: “Why Social Media is so important for your business and how you can use it.”
